Q 1. - How far in advance should I book my make-up trial?:

Answer - You need to book your makeup trial at least six to seven months prior to your wedding date.

  • Some brides may like to consider having their trial in the same weather conditions that they could reasonably expect to encounter around their wedding day. So, if you want a Summer wedding, think about having your trial done in hot weather. The same idea applies for Spring, Autumn and Winter.
  • Have an idea of the look you would like to achieve for your wedding.
  • Many brides have makeup colour preferences and you will need to voice your likes and dislikes before your makeup trial.
  • I suggest that brides look at good quality photographs in Bridal Magazines and have their favourite pictures ready to show me upon my arrival for their makeup trial.

Q2. - What make up look is best for my Wedding Day?

Answer - Every makeup is individualized to meet your requirements, however, makeup for the bride is usually best when it is soft and feminine.

  • Some brides have themed weddings and will need make-up to match with the theme they have chosen.
  • It is important to be really open and honest about what you like and don't like  and this is discussed before the makeup trial and also on the day of the trial.

Q3. - I am starting to be pressured and I don't know what to do about the situation.

Answer - To make your wedding day one of the most special days of your life there is much to consider.

  • My Mother, bridesmaids and my future Mother-in-law all want to be present when I have my trial makeup done. I am starting to be pressured and I don't know what to do about the situation. I know that they love me but I need to relax.
  • If you want your wedding makeup trial date to be relaxing and have it to yourself so that you alone can decide what you like, then just let everyone know that you understand that they love you as you love them. Then you can say that you need some "me" time so that you can truly relax. Jokingly let them know that you really do not want to turn into a " Bridezilla" from stress building up as the countdown to your wedding day happens.
  • Another option is to limit the people who are present during the trial. You may want to have a special time with your Mother? Or with your best friend?
This may be fine, especially if they also want a trial makeup done on the day you are having yours.
From experience, having a group of people present when you are having your trial can lead to confusion and frustration for the bride because everyone has different likes and dislikes which are usually based on their requirements for their own makeup. The final decision is yours, so make sure that you will be relaxed and able to ask questions or makeup requests on the makeup rehearsal day.

Q4 - What makeup is best for photographs?

Answer - The style and design (colours) need to be more intense than for everyday appearance due to the effects of lighting. The face can be drained of colour by a high percentage leaving you looking washed out. Also, the use of glitter or shimmer may show up as a " flare" on the finished photograph.

Q5 - My eyebrows and eyelashes are so fair that I wonder about whether or not to get them tinted?

Answer - Tinting eyebrows and eyelashes about 5 days before your wedding day is a good idea as tinted lashes will intensify the look of your eyes and your eyebrows frame your eyes.

  • Please trial having your tints done a few months before your wedding to ensure that you do not have a reaction to the dyes used.
  • Also, ask friends and workmates if they have had tinting done and do did the job for them. It is advisable to get them done by a trained beauty therapist as you want a safe experience a nd a great result.
  • Tinting your eyelashes and brows will mean that you have a good look whilst on your honeymoon and won't need to use mascara or eyebrow pencil throughout the day.

Q6 - How far in advance of my wedding day should I start a good skincare routine?

Answer - You really need to start paying extra attention to your skincare routine at least six months prior to your big day.

  • Cleanse
  • Tone
  • Moisturise
  • Eye Cream: morning and night
  • Exfoliate at least once per week: including your lips
  • Deep pore cleansing mask at least once per week but not on the same day as you exfoliate

Note: remember to also exfoliate and moisturise your elbows ,feet, hands, legs and shoulders. These areas of your body may be on show depending on the style of your wedding dress.
The end of your working week is a good night to pamper yourself with the beauty routine for your body.

Sleep and diet

Remember that the beauty of your skin does not just depend on the external skin care products you use. Consider drinking at least two liters of water every day.

  • Limit alcohol which can dehydrate even the youngest  looking skin.
  • Eat plenty of green vegetables.
  • Eat at least 30 - 35 gm's of fibre from food daily.
  • Use a tasteless fibre supplement if you have trouble eating the amount of fibre you need daily. Benefiber from the supermarket can be added to drinks and cooking..
  • Boiled water with a fresh squeeze of lemon juice taken before breakfast will also help your liver to keep you healthy and your skin glowing..

Apart from the drinking lots of water and  eating healthy food there is nothing better for the beauty of your skin than a great sleeping pattern.
You must take all makeup off before going to bed no matter how exhausted you feel as leaving it on ages the skin quite drastically.

Q7 - Will I need to have any beauty products with me on my wedding day?

Answer - Yes, it is a good idea to have a lip liner, lipstick, a clear lip polish and possibly a compressed translucent powder. However, when makeup is applied correctly it will stay put even in hot weather. Lipstick is the one item that will need to be touched up after you have been eating all that delicious food you have  organised for your wedding reception.

  • Also, consider a small tube of toothpaste and toothbrush and / or Breath Freshener.

Q8 - What cosmetics do you use?

Answer - Like most people in Makeup Artistry I have many " little gem" items of makeup and skin care in my makeup trolley. However, I do prefer to use botanically based  Arbonne skin care and cosmetics which are finely milled, stay on really well and come in lovely colour combinations.
I also use Kryolan and Ella Bache
